Len Strickler - Instructor In 1973 I was taking "Chang Hun" Tae Kwon Do from Ki Chun Choi at the S.E. YMCA. Mr. Choi opened his own school across town and Len Strickler took over his class at the "Y" A few months later Mr. Strickler opened his own school in an "alley front" store behind Terry's Pizza on South Parkway and Byrd Springs Rd. The floor was linoleum with a couple of exposed holes for electrical wiring. The walls were thin paneling that we constantly had to pull back into place from having people run their opponents through the walls. The bathrooms were shared between several businesses. Not long after we moved into this building Mr. Strickler had carpet put on the floors. We had a Speed Bag, Heavy Bag, a few weights and plenty of good people to make this the premier school in this area. In 1977 the school moved 1/2 mile south to Charlotte Dr. After about 9 months at this location Mr. Strickler moved out of town with his job. Mr. Strickler also opened a school in the old town district of Decatur, Al. I don't think it lasted but about a year. I remember going there in Mr. Strickler's van. Ron Warren |
